Remington model 24 Old Style Bolt & Extractor System

Note – there are differences between the Old/Style & the New/Style extractor. This O/S has a partial radiused pocket in the rear top (as shown) of the extractor for the plunger to bear against. The breechbolt has the hole for the plunger ONE diameter from front to rear of the hole.

 Remington model 24 New Style bolt& extractor system

 Note – there are differences between the Old/Style & the New/Style extractor. This N/S has a lip on the top (as shown) of the extractor for the plunger to hook against & onto. The plunger has a radiused ball rear end. The breechbolt has the hole for the plunger with THREE different diameters from front to rear of the hole to accommodate the larger front of the plunger to & to allow it to move up & down in operation of snapping over the rim of the cartridge.

You may notice here that Remington added a prefix number 2 to any parts that were changed or different within the model series.

The Long Rifle version has a 22 LR stamped on the rear of the breechbolt. The 22 Short has no designation, but has relief cuts on both sides to lighten it. Note the coil springs have a somewhat closed one end. If in doubt of which is needed, the O/S extractor & plunger can be used in the N/S breechbolt, however the plunger will be sloppy in the hole, but not the other way around.
